Schedule

Day 1

Changdeokgung Palace

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Changdeokgung Palace is one of the most beautifully preserved royal palaces of the Joseon Dynasty. Built in the early 15th century, it was designed in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape rather than imposing symmetry. This reflects Confucian principles of balance, restraint, and respect for nature. The throne hall, residential quarters, and the famed Secret Garden illustrate how royal authority and daily court life were carefully structured through architecture, space, and ritual tradition.

Jongmyo Shrine

Jongmyo Shrine, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, served as the royal ancestral shrine of the Joseon Dynasty. Here, kings performed elaborate Confucian rites to honor their predecessors, reinforcing moral governance and dynastic continuity. Its long, solemn wooden hall is renowned for its dignified simplicity and horizontal design. Jongmyo embodies the spiritual foundation of Joseon society, where politics, ethics, and ritual were inseparable elements of statecraft and daily life.

Gwangjang Market

Established in 1905, Gwangjang Market is one of Seoul’s oldest traditional markets and a vibrant symbol of Korea’s everyday culture. While palaces and shrines reflect royal authority, this market reveals the life of ordinary citizens. Visitors can explore authentic Korean street foods such as bindaetteok and handmade noodles while experiencing the lively atmosphere of local vendors. Gwangjang Market connects historic heritage with the dynamic rhythm of modern Seoul.

Kimchi-Making Experience in Insadong (Kimjang Tradition)

Kimjang, the tradition of preparing and sharing kimchi, is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. More than a culinary practice, it represents seasonal wisdom, community cooperation, and the transmission of knowledge across generations. During this hands-on experience, participants learn traditional seasoning techniques and cultural meanings behind Korea’s iconic dish. Kimchi embodies the spirit of sharing and collective identity that continues to define Korean society today.

Pansori Performance in Insadong (Traditional Korean Music)

Pansori, inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, is a unique form of Korean musical storytelling performed by a singer and drummer. Emerging during the late Joseon period, it reflects the voices, emotions, and moral values of the people. Through dramatic narration and expressive vocals, Pansori conveys themes of loyalty, filial piety, humor, and resilience. This powerful art form bridges royal history and popular culture, preserving the soul of Korea’s narrative tradition.
